Well at look at it from a consumer's point a view I guess. I know you are not from the United States, but in the US there is a very high value on looks. And not just any looks, but looking perfect. So girls and women in the US and I am pretty sure any industrialized nation go to great lengths to not look like themselves. With all the cosmetic surgery and makeup and things of that nature.
So I think "will work for eternal youth" is a really powerful message. It is saying that the girl would be willing to almost sell herself and even her soul to never grow old or grow up, because then by society she would be deemed ugly. Possibly her greatest fear, not being accepted by others. I honestly think you nailed it on the head with this concept and I am really honored that you want to see my opinion because I really admire your work and I do know a lot of other people do as well.
Thanks a lot for taking the time to write this. I am really glad that it makes sense, without feedback I cannot know
When I did this illustration I also thought about the economic crisis and how people are losing their jobs and to hold a sign in the street is really a last attempt to survive. So the two kinda clicked by themselves in my opinion.
And this "pursuit of happiness" is not only an US thing for sure.
